The kids and I returned to Mount Rainier National Park today to check out the Owyhigh Lakes trail. This trail turned out to be 3.5 miles up to the lakes, hiking only through dense forest. After about 0.5 miles, we decided to turn around and save this hike for another day.
We returned to the Sunrise area and hiked along the Sourdough Ridge to Frozen Lake. The snow on the trail was considerably melted away compared to this same hike only 4 days earlier. We made it all the way to Frozen Lake and the water was incredibly blue. This area is a major fork in the road where about 5 other trails leave from. We started to head up to the Mt. Fremont peak and lookout, but decided to turn around and and this hike to our list to complete later. Another great day on the mountain, fun had by all.
