Today our own momma bear joined us for two hikes in the Rainier National Park. We left home early and headed to the Silver Falls hike near the Ohanapecosh camp ground. We had a great 1.3 mile hike to the falls, which were beautiful to see on this sunny day. The 1.4 mile return went fast, this hike is relatively flat and in an old growth forest. Following this hike, we drove around and into the park further to the White River camp ground. We ate lunch here, and then started out on our hike along the Glacier Basin trail, with a goal to make it up Glacier Basin Base Camp. We ended up turning back at the 2.8 mile mark due to too much snow across the trail, making it just too hard for the kids to cross. on our hike back down to the trail head, we did cross paths with a wild black bear! We handled it well, and the bear went his way and we went ours. It sure was exciting.
In total, this hike was an 1800 foot climb and 5.6 miles total. All together today, we hiked over 8 miles. Way to go, Claire and Levi!

More snow started to appear on the trail.
Almost to the Glacier Basin base camp.
We turned around here, too much snow to make it work with the kids.
More snow than we expected.
Mount Rainier
Our new friend, the black bear. I should have stayed and taken a better photo, but I was not sure if this bear was alone. He went his way and we went ours.
