Jessica here! Luke was off at a drag-racing event on this Saturday, and my friend Jill's husband Doug was working, so her and I took the opportunity to hit the trails with our kids. Claire walked and I carried Levi in the backpack, and August walked and Jill carried Juliet in her Ergo carrier. Where would we be without these baby-carriers? I didn't mind crossing the Narrow's Bridge, so Jill recommended a forest park near Purdy that she was familiar with.
McCormick Forest is a typical Northwest forest, filled with evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs. LOTS of ferns and soft pine-needles over dirt under foot. The
trails in this park are clearly and alphabetically labeled, and are popular among the trail-running community in this area due to their athletic nature, (read this: there was a lot of up and down). We were proud of the kids and ourselves for the workout we got. We started off the trail at a good pace, and about 2000 feet in we came up to a series of switchbacks leading into and then out of a ravine. Beautiful, but a little nerve-wracking at times with the wee-ones forging their own trail. Our efforts to gently but firmly explain the consequences of tipping over the edge of the trail were lost on these little minds I'm afraid. Ah the innocence and fearlessness of youth.
Along the way we saw a couple of snails, several mushrooms and berries, and lots of interesting fallen trees and stumps. We all had fun and made it home in time for lunch. Pretty successful outing led by the moms I'd say!
